One of my favorite things to eat has always been Chinese food. When going gluten-free,
I avoided it for ages but I’m lucky enough to have found a local takeaway who can make me gluten-free sweet and sour chicken!
Cooking your own gluten-free Chinese dishes is, however, far healthier (and cheaper!). After seeing how popular my 10 gluten and dairy-free thai dishes post was, I thought I’d share some of my favourite Chinese dishes to make too!
1.Gluten free sweet and sour chicken balls
These crispy sweet and sour balls work great by themselves or with my gluten, free, dairy free and refined sugar free sweet and sour sauce!
2. Sweet and Sour Chicken by My Gluten-Free Kitchen
If you prefer chicken style pieces rather than balls, try this version! The key it seems is to use corn starch to coat the chicken, then brown in a pan before transferring to the oven. It looks just like the real thing!

3. Chicken Subgum Chow Mein by Gluten-Free Palate.
Chow mein used to be one of my favorite dishes to eat before I went gluten-free but I’ve not yet had it replicated (since my local don’t offer a gluten-free version). This option is also completely grain free.

6. Slow Cooker Cashew Chicken by The Life of Dee
You all know how I LOVE a good slow cooker (you can find my favorite gluten-free slow cooker recipes here) but I’ve never even thought of making Chinese cuisine in mine! It uses gluten free soya sauce and rice wine vinegar for the base and coats the chicken in cornflour.

7. Instant Pot Orange Chicken by Recipes from A Pantry
I don’t have an instant pot myself; although I was tempted the last time they were reduced on Amazon Prime Day. They’re a really fantastic way of cooking quickly and healthily. It can be made in less than 30 minutes too!

I love prawn toast in all it’s fried, unhealthy goodness. Unfortunately, it’s a bit harder to recreate gluten free but this recipe by Schar is a good place to start!
