Afternoon tea is something I really struggle with being gluten-free. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever had a good gluten-free afternoon tea experience: it’s really hard, especially if you’re also dairy-free like me and I’d pretty much given up on the concept living outside of London.
Enter: Cutter and Squidge who are bringing the afternoon tea from their London bakery to your doorstep! They’ve created a box of their favourite wheat-free and vegan afternoon tea treats-perfect for mother’s day or a special celebration-with a mix of scones, vegan cream, and cakes. WHAT’S INCLUDED IN MOTHER’S DAY WHEAT FREE, VEGAN AFTERNOON TEA BY CUTTER AND SQUIDGE?
My Tea for Two kits contained all of the below, all of which was wheat-free, didn’t contain gluten and was vegan (so free from egg and dairy)

1 x Pot of Fruity Jam
1 x Cutter & Squidge Fine Loose Leaf Tea
DOES CUTTER AND SQUIDGES WHEAT-FREE, VEGAN AFTERNOON TEA CONTAIN GLUTEN?
Whilst this is wheat-free, it doesn’t contain any gluten-containing ingredients. It uses Plenish gluten-free oat milk but the box state it is not suitable for coeliacs due to contamination risk.
OUR VERDICT: MOTHER’S DAY WHEAT FREE, VEGAN AFTERNOON TEA BY CUTTER AND SQUIDGE
When I received the wheat-free, vegan afternoon tea box I was really blown away. Firstly, lets talk about the scones: I’d not had one in years and these were perfection. They seemed like they might be dry at first glance but after a few minutes in the oven, they were soft, crumbly, and just the right level of sweetness. And that’s without mentioning the vegan clotted cream-I didn’t even realise that existed but it was incredible and I immediately need to find this again! The homemade strawberry jam and enclosed tea bags were everything you need for the perfect tea break and I enjoyed every second devouring them.
The set also came with two types of cake. First, the brownie. Now a brownie is often scorned as an obvious gluten-free choice but these were caramely, gooey and just delicious. One of the best brownies I’d tried. I loved the ice lemon mini loaf too-it looked the part, felt like a really fancy cake (which we often don’t get when we’re gluten free), and was the perfect contrast to the brownie as a light, zesty loaf.
We were really impressed with the size of this set also and there’s plenty for two (the scones were huge, the image doesn’t show you just how big they are, and just one would have sufficed I think). We’ll definitely be reording.
Overall, if you miss afternoon tea, can’t find a gluten-free afternoon tea near to home or just want to bring it into your living room, you can’t go wrong with Cutter and Squidge’s wheat-free vegan afternoon tea box. The only disappointing part is that’s not currently suitable for coeliacs and I’d love to see if Cutter and Squidge might offer this option in the future.
