Today I’m back with another low FODMAP blog post and this time it’s a review! I’ve blogged before about the low FODMAP diet and how it can be beneficial to those with IBS in particular. There’s less evidence for those of us with IBD but it is often recommended to help symptoms such as bloating that can accompany the condition.
Many of the foods I eat are low FODMAP since I avoid gluten, dairy, egg, and I hate onion. I often find it hard to find cooking sauces that are allergen-friendly, don’t have tons of added sugar and preservatives (important for me and for my son Jude), don’t have onion and most importantly, taste good! Enter Slightly Different and their range of low FODMAP cooking sauces.
What are Slightly Different low FODMAP Cooking sauces?

Slightly Different offers a range of cooking sauces with no artificial preservatives, flavorings, or colouring, are lower in sugar and salt, are Gluten-Free certified, and are free from all 14 of the major allergens in all our ingredients. That’s a pretty impressive list of credentials. Importantly, they’re also low FODMAP friendly too-with many regular sauces containing high FODMAP foods such as onion and garlic, finding sauces that aren’t can be really tricky.
Slightly Different have a range of cooking sauces (from sweet and sour to Mexican chili), salad dressing, and condiments and there really is something for everyone. They sent me their ‘Around the World’ 10 pack of cooking sauces; a brilliant variety pack which includes: bolognese, sweet and sour, tikka masala, chill non-carni, sweet chili, tropical curry, arrabbiata, Thai red curry, fajita, tomato, and basil, a pack that covers all different types of cooking and spice levels. To say I was excited to review these was an understatement!
My review of Slightly Different’s low FODMAP sauces

I really enjoyed this mix of kits. First up, the curries: we love Thai food in our house so we really enjoyed the tropical curry and Thai red: both were packed with flavour without being spicy and of course without onion and garlic that you usually find in these sauces! The tropical one was lovely if you are like me and like milk thai dishes and not too much spice.
The tikka masala, which uses coconut milk rather than regular dairy, still tasted creamy and smooth-just as good as our local Indian takeaway and we’ll definitely be repurchasing this one. It tastes great with both salmon and chicken.
We enjoyed using tomato-based sauces, such as Bolognese, Mexican Chilli, and Arrabbiata in our slow cooker. Whilst it’s easy enough to get gluten and dairy-free tomato sauces it was great that these contained no garlic or onion (almost every single tomato sauce I’ve found does!) and they also seemed to be lower in sugar than many on the market too, which was an added bonus for us. I found the chili quite spicy-no surprise there-so add in a dollop of coconut yoghurt if your spice threshold is as rubbish as mine!
I’d definitely recommend Slightly Different if you’re new to the low FODMAP diet or are just looking for some healthier, allergen-free sauces which take the stress out of checking labels!
