Netflix and Chill: Gluten and Dairy Free Style

SODASince moving house, I’ve been attempting to stay in much more- we finally have a decent size living room to entertain and I don’t have to fret about what’s on the restaurant menu! One of the hardest things I find as gluten free and dairy free is just things to snack on that are also reasonably healthy! I get so bored of ready salted crisps! Today I thought I’d share with you all about how I chill at home gluten and dairy-free style!

What I Watch

Gilmore Girls: ok, confession time: I never watched Gilmore Girls the first time around! The revival came on and I clicked out of mild curiosity. One episode later, I was hooked! I think it’s really rare to find a TV show these days that doesn’t focus solely on romantic relationships and it is pure escapism.

Pretty Little Liars: Another show I began watching by chance! I started at series 5 because I’m impatient meaning I don’t know who half the characters are! I need to go back to series 1!

Health Documentaries I also went through a phase of watching health documentaries on Netflix. If you’re into juicing, Fat Sick and Nearly Dead is amazing (a man manages to come off steroids after juicing!) I also love Forks over Knives and Hungry for Change. There’s a real movement to document health that doesn’t seem to have quite translated in the UK yet.

Movie Snacks

For snacking, I try to recreate the usual snacks; free-from style. My first is homemade pizza. Sometimes we’ll order from Zizzi’s as a treat (since they do gluten free pizza with dairy free cheese) which is amazing! Otherwise, gluten free bases with plenty of toppings with goats cheese or regular dairy free cheese does the trick! (I learnt I could tolerate goat’s cheese about six months ago but before that I used  MozzaRisella– which is also what Zizzi use on their vegan pizzas! It’s fab for pizzas!) I also make my

I also make my gluten free chicken goujon recipe– which is exactly like the chicken dippers Pizza Hut do! (well, I think so anyway!)

For popcorn, the lovely folks at Metcalfe’s sent me some of their new skinny range to snack on during my Netflix night! Most popcorn tends to have dairy in, so I was excited to see I could have four flavours: cinema sweet, salt, sweet and salty and maple bacon! These came in small trial bags too which were so so handy (I may have sneaked a few in my bag when we went to see Beauty and the Beast the following week)

Not only are they free-from, but they’re also really low in calories too. So if you’re looking for a sweet but healthy snack then this might be for you! The salt flavour are the most virtuous of the 3- only containing a handful ingredients.

Free From Tiple

I don’t drink very often- so I tend to make a yummy hot drink- such as my turmeric hot mylk. However, I will sometimes buy Gluten Free Peroni- since my husband loves it too and Crabbie’s ginger beer- which is also gluten free! The rasberry one is particularly yummy!

I love an old movie with a bucket of popcorn curtains drawn and my hubby cuddle up on the sofa not forgetting a glass of rose wine

  2. Margaret Gaskell

Love chilling at home with Netflix and my hubby, choosing what we want to watch, with yummy snacks. We watch very little normal terrestrial tv these days, it’s such rubbish. Great competition thanks for the chance to win such a fabulous prize.

  3. My ideal Netflix and Chill has to include a bingeworthy show. My most recent favourites have been Reign and Iron Fist. I would have a snack platter as I’m on Slimming World to use my daily syns. I usually use Metcalfes skinny popcorn as its very low in syns, fruit, alpen lights and babybel cheese with a cup of fruit tea. My perfect Netflix and Chill

  4. Jennifer Gardner

Mad Men is now on Netflix and I’ve been loving it. I usually drink some pear cider now that it’s warmer.

  5. A good horror film and some lovely crunchy popcorn to throw all over my husband when the film makes me jump.

  6. For me it would be rupauls drag race! With my husband it would be some good stand up or a comedy film.

  7. I was a Gilmore Girls fan the first time the program aired and I love re-watching things I’ve enjoyed (I know re-watching the same programs/films annoys a lot of people) but re-watching is one of my guilty pleasures 🙂 I hate getting into something mid series, I always have to go back to the beginning. And great series are best enjoyed with great snacks, classic popcorn, chocolate (Moo free original is perfect) and a nice cold drink.

I am half way through The Affair, not my affair! The Affair and enjoying the sweet and salty popcorn which a small bag is just enough

  9. A ‘Walking Dead’ boxset, my little fella nicely tucked up in bed and a box of Ferrero Rocher chocs and a glass or two of red to enjoy in peace. x

Snuggling up to my hubby on the sofa watching a chick flick with a glass of wine & a big bowl of popcorn

  11. Cassie Bedford

Plenty of sweets and chocolate 🙂 Oh and a decision before the evening starts of what film to watch, otherwise we sit there for hours deciding

I love popcorn, and movies so this is a fabulous prize for me!
A big bowl of different flavour popcorn makes the perfect movie night to me!

  13. I’m a chick flick kinda girl! Teamed with a Diet Coke and good snacks would make the perfect Netflix and chill

  14. Wine and crisps for me! Great to discover your site, I’ve been gluten free since January and am awaiting allergy and intolerance testing in hospital next month as I may need to go dairy free too!
