Return to Fitness Diaries: Part Two

As you may know, last month I posted about my journey back to fitness. Although I am a health blogger, I have never claimed to be a super-fit one! I started to go to the gym and get into running about a year ago but after a surgery due to my IBD– I had to rest and,as a result, I had to go back to square one! I made a positive start in May: increasing my running and adding in yoga– this month hasn’t been as successful (I’ll explain later) but I have still made some progress. Let’s so how we did…

I started June with lots of walks again. I also started using a Slendertone Abs7*. Now, when I posted this on twitter- I had some comments saying this wouldn’t be beneficial but it has actually really helped me. For one,  I hadn’t been doing planks and sit-ups for ages so introducing the Slendertone firstly just reminded me I actually had those muscles!

It felt great to finally to be feeling that I’d worked those muscle and just helped me start paying attention to my body again: As I mentioned in my blog about illness and body image- goals of being toned kind of go out of the window when it comes to your health! Secondly, it was the perfect thing to use if I wasn’t feeling up to exercise: at the start of the month I was really struggling with fatigue so increasing my workout was out of the question! But using the slendertone, helped me feel like I was doing something- you definitely do feel the muscles working! I would really recommend this as a starting point for anyone looking to get back to exercise slowly: hopefully I will be able start introducing more core workouts to go along with the Slendertone as time goes on.

Another fitness decision I made this month was to quit the gym! I know this seems like a bit of a rash decision as I am trying to get better at fitness, but I decided I just needed something more flexible for me- there were days in June where I just felt like a workout wasn’t possible and days when I had burst of energy. Therefore I hate paying so much when I feel like sometimes exercise is out of my control! I’ve been researching lots more tech-savvy ways to workout for a Huffington Post blog and I’m thinking working out from home may be the best solution for me! Another thing I stumbled across was Pay As You Go Gym– a site where you can buy gym passes for one-off gym use; I’m thinking this may be the perfect solution to fitting exercise around my life!

As you can see, my fitness journey is far from complete- I am sure I will keep updating you! But if you suffer from health problems like me, I would strongly encourage you to try and keep up with a fitness program; whether it’s daily walks, using a slendertone belt or just working out from home! I’d love to hear your ways of keeping fit below too. Let me know if you have any tips…

I am totally with you on this. I need to get back to fit! I will be introducing Yoga again but I don’t like running! Have you tried Zumba? Absolutely brilliant.

I really want to try a slendertone and see if it makes any difference for me x

Pay as you go gym would definitely work for me as my hub works away so it’s hit and miss when I can go

I’ve always wondered if the Slendertones worked so interesting to hear that yes in some situations they do. x

I go to the gym opposite where I live and it’s pretty cheap, like £10 a month cheap so I doubt anywhere or anything could be cheaper 😀 but yeah, I also work out at home but mainly weight. Never actually tried any other products.

Just heard the Slendertone from a friend and she said it does help her fitnes routine. I should try it as well as I start July to be more active! 🙂

I’ve often wondered whether Slendertones actually work! I am so unfit and I can’t actually do a great deal of activity due to my own health issues so I have been tempted but I’m fearful of it being a waste of money.
