In my bid to blog more recipes and food posts this year, I have several review posts coming up that demonstrate just some of the amazing options for us free fromers and health conscious foodies! First up is my Ilumi Food Review- this is a company I met at the Allergy and Free From show. They’re running a pretty bargainous deal at the moment in which they offer a 7-day meal package for £47.99 . Absolutely perfect if you are new to gluten/dairy free, experiencing a busy period with no time to cook or perhaps recovering from illness or surgery and need to make sure you have some quick and healthy food to hand.
There is such a range of foods to pick from. You get to choose from sides (such as rice and noodles) , soups (including spicy butternut squash and pea and pancetta ) and an amazing variety of mains (including casseroles, Chinese dishes, meatballs-more about them in a moment- and Indian dishes)
The great thing about all these dishes is that they’re always gluten and dairy free but also completely natural. For example, here’s the ingredients for chicken casserole (which was an absolute lifesaver on busy days at work)
As you can see the bulk of the ingredients are good old chicken, veg, herbs and chicken stock! No nasty preservatives or names you can’t pronounce! Although there’s plenty of companies offering free from meals now, this is the first one I’ve tried that is completely natural in its ingredients.
The meals come in sachets or microwaveable trays and despite this, I was really impressed with the taste. My hubby (who is very much pro-gluten, dairy and everything else!) wolfed down the koftas without even noticing they were free from! And the chicken meatballs were amazing (and really low fat too; unlike most which can be greasy). The only thing I didn’t like was the Spicy Butternut Squash because it was too er…spicey! I probably should have saw that one coming!
Here’s the 4 dishes I liked the most…
I don’t tend to like dishes with lots of veggies ( I just hate those little bits of pepper and sweetcorn) in so these were perfect! The chicken casserole and chicken meatballs were definitely on repeat order!
